2023 Scholarship Recipients

StevieLynn Russell

StevieLynn moved to the Tri-Cities when she was 6. She has always loved animals and started showing hogs with the Finley FFA as an 8th grader. She learned a lot about animal care and training through raising and showing her hogs. StevieLynn has been in FFA for five years and has gone to state on multiple occasions for various competitions. After high school, she plans to take a year and complete more of her core classes before moving to Twin Falls, Idaho, to study veterinary technology at the College of Southern Idaho.

Carson Chavez

Carson Chavez graduated from Kennewick High School and Columbia Basin College in June of 2023. While he has been dually enrolled as a high school student and running start student, Carson has averaged a GPA of 3.6 or better. In August, he will be attending Washington State University in Pullman to earn an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he plans to transfer out of state to earn his PhD in Physical Therapy. While enrolled at CBC, he focused his educational career on preparing for PT school. While in high school, Carson played soccer for Three Rivers Soccer Club at the ECNL level. From the age of 9, he has been raising high quality pork in a farm to table model where he has competed all over Eastern Washington showing pigs at fairs and winning multiple awards. Carson was a 4-H member until high school and then joined FFA, where he found success as a leader in his chapter.

Steele Shumway

Steele graduated from Tri-Cities Prep, where he played football, basketball, and rodeo. Steele has participated in 4-H and shown swine at the Benton Franklin Fair since he was in the fourth grade. He will attend Grand Canyon University in Arizona this fall to pursue a business degree. Steele is thankful for his parents for showing him leadership and work ethic in and out of the show ring and rodeo arena, and he will use these tools to be successful in the college classrooms.
